Travel

Step 1: Fly from Texas to Lisbon (LIS)
Book an international flight from your home airport in USA to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS). Many routes include one connection through major U.S. or European hubs.
Step 2: Arrive in Lisbon
After landing in Lisbon, clear customs and collect your luggage. We recommend planning a time buffer if you’re arriving the same day you’ll be traveling onward to our wedding venue.
Step 3: Travel to Alentejo
Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is located in the picturesque Alentejo countryside, approximately 2 hours by car from Lisbon.
-
Rental car: Best option for flexibility and exploring the region. Be sure to request a vehicle equipped with GPS and "via verde" for toll roads.
-
Private transfer: For those who prefer not to drive, we recommend booking a private transfer through various online platforms like Viator.com or specialized companies like ZipTransfers.com.

Step 4: Enjoy the journey
The drive to Alentejo is scenic and peaceful, with rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves along the way — a perfect introduction to the region.

Exploring Portugal
We hope you make our wedding but also would highly recommend planning your time come and explore before or after our wedding. Portugal is our favorite country in the world and you'll soon understand why! This country is small but full of culture and good food! All towns are easily accessible by car. Cities streets are narrow and most pavement is cobblestone so bring sneakers, be prepared to walk and when driving, be ready for fast highway speeds and narrow small town alleys.
Lisbon
Portugal's vibrant capital blends historic charm with modern energy. Colorful neighborhoods, river views, culture, shopping and nightlife make it an ideal starting point.
Eat: Pastel de nata, bacalhau (salt cod), bifana pork sandwiches and fresh seafood. Our three top places to eat locally are: Cervejaria Ramiro for amazing seafood, Pasteis de Belem for THE best custard pastries in the world. Bifanas do Alfonso for ridiculously addicting saucy warm pork sandwiches.

Stay: Ivens Hotel (Marriott Bonvoy), Memmo Alfama or Hotel Avenida Palace.
Alentejo
A peaceful countryside of rolling vineyards and olive groves. Known for its slow pace and authentic Portuguese traditions.
Eat: Porco preto (Iberian black pork), migas, local cheeses and Alentejo wines.

Stay: We recommend staying at either Herdade do Grous or Holiday Inn in Beja, both located approximately 3-6 miles from our wedding venue.
You are welcome to book rooms at our suggested hotels or at Herdade da Malhadinha. There will be a special rate for our guests.
Please let us know if you are interested at staying at our wedding venue, Herdade da Malhadinha when submitting your RSVP. There are limited rooms available there and will be allocated on a "first come" basis.
Algarve
Famous for golden cliffs, turquoise water and relaxed coastal towns. Perfect for beach days, boat trips and nightlife summer vibes. Pack a swimsuit and sunscreen if you plan to drive south to visit this region.

Eat: Cataplana seafood stew, grilled fish, octopus salad (Joanna's favorite) and percebes. For sunset drinks try a "chiringuito" at Praia da Rocha in Lagos. For best seafood try "O'Marisqueira Beach Bar" or "Bar do Peixe"

Stay: We recommend Pine Cliffs Resort (Marriott Bonvoy), Conrad Algarve (Hilton) or an airbnb for larger groups. Best areas to stay are Lagos, Carvoeiro or Tavira.
